Alleged eMalahleni serial rapist’s trial resumes in High Court

More state witnesses are expected to testify today in Middelburg as the trial of alleged serial rapist Cascar Nkosi enters its third day.

The trial of Cascar Nkosi (39), accused of multiple counts of rape and kidnapping in eMalahleni, resumes today (October 21) in the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court in Middelburg, as the case enters its third day.

More state witnesses are expected to take the stand today as proceedings progress after a major escalation in charges, which saw the prosecution expand the indictment from 26 counts to 31.

The charges against Nkosi include multiple counts of rape and kidnapping involving children aged between seven and 13, alongside separate counts of rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
Nkosi pleaded guilty to only three charges: common assault, assault GBH, and the violation of a protection order – all pertaining to his ex-wife

Police link accused to 10 earlier cases

Nkosi has remained in custody since his arrest in January 2025, when police apprehended him while he was attending court in Vosman for an unrelated assault case.

Subsequent police investigations linked him to at least 10 reported cases of abduction and sexual assault across eMalahleni and Mhluzi dating back to 2023. Nkosi pleaded guilty to only three charges: Two counts of assault GBH and the violation of a protection order.

Activists and affected family members are watching court proceedings closely as the trial unfolds this week.

“We remain hopeful that justice will be served, and we are very thankful for all the support we are receiving,” said Kwanele-Mama Foundation chairperson Vinolia Mashiane.
