Police have arrested a Mozambican national following a farm robbery last week near the Kusile Power Station.

The arrest came after a high-speed chase that led to the recovery of stolen vehicles and other property.

The robbery occurred on August 14, when five armed men allegedly forced their way into the farmhouse.

A Ford Ranger Club Cab, a BMW, a generator, a fridge, jumper cables, cell phones, as well as sheep and chickens were stolen.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the stolen vehicles were located with the help of a tracking company on the R42 between Bronkhorstspruit and Delmas.

The police also spotted a silver Mazda believed to have been used by the robbers.

A high-speed chase ensued, during which the suspects abandoned the BMW.

“While some officers secured the scene, others continued to pursue the Ford Ranger. The chase led them to eTwatwa, Daveyton, where the men abandoned the Ford Ranger and fled on foot,” Ndubane said.

During the pursuit, a Mazda Etude allegedly tried to block the police from overtaking and subsequently crashed.

“The driver, a 35-year-old Mozambican national, was arrested at the scene,” Ndubane said.

Following his arrest, police conducted a preliminary investigation that led them to Bronkhorstspruit, where more of the stolen property was recovered.

The suspect has been charged with house robbery and contravention of the Immigration Act.

He is expected to appear in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on August 18.

The chickens were found inside the boot of the BMW.
