Video captures Mandela Road robbery as it unfolds

The video trending on social media clearly shows how a man was robbed.

A man was robbed of his laptop in broad daylight on Mandela Road, moments after he left FNB bank.

When the man realised he was being followed on August 15, he drove to a local car dealership.

He got out of his v bakkie, locked it, and walked towards the car he suspected was following him.

The video shows two men emerging from the car, one of them was armed.

He pointed a gun at the man, who by then was so frightened, he ran away.

The robbers walked back to their car, took out a tool from the boot and smashed the window of the man’s bakkie, grabbed a laptop, and fled the scene.

Police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall issued a strong warning to the public to avoid withdrawing large amounts of cash from banks.

“Syndicates have ‘spotters’ who operate from inside the bank. They communicate all the details to their accomplices outside, who are ready to pounce on any unsuspected victim,” Hall said.

The Banking Association of South Africa also warn against withdrawing large amounts of cash.

“Avoid transacting with large sums of cash, try to use alternative payment methods such as your card, or electronic facilities. Always be observant when carrying large sums of cash. If you suspect you are being followed, report to the police immediately.”

*The victim indicated he will speak to WITBANK NEWS a bit later.
