Attorney gives GBV a ‘punch’ in eMalahleni

The stakeholders strategised on empowering women and addressing financial dependency.

To end Women’s Month, local attorney Ursula Ntuli, brought together stakeholders from various organisations in eMalahleni to tackle the scourge of GBV in the city.

The event on August 29 brought together influential voices to strategise on empowering women, addressing financial dependency, and providing support to those in abusive relationships.

Among the different key stakeholders the event featured were the National Prosecuting Authority, SAPS, League of Theory and Action, Old Mutual, Nkangala TVET College, representatives from the Emalahleni Local Municipality, and other prominent business leaders in eMalahleni.

“By combining resources and expertise, we aim to create a safer, more supportive environment for women in eMalahleni, and pave the way for a brighter, more equitable future,” said Ursula.

The MMC for corporate services in eMalahleni, Clr Hessie Maseko, commended the SAPS in eMalahleni for continuing to do their job, stating that they have seen justice prevailing in GBV cases.

“As the municipality, we are happy to see these GBV awareness programmes continuing, and we are in support of them,” Hessie said, adding that they will pass their requests for donations to the executive mayor.

“We have heard that the community wants to uplift GBV victims so that after suffering abuse, they can at least find something to be busy with instead of giving up,” she added.

The event ended on a very positive note as the attendees also got a chance to meet and greet over mouthwatering refreshments.
