‘Different looks, equal worth’

The programme was designed to create a safe space where individuals could speak openly, share their experiences, and receive valuable information and support.

The Emalahleni Local Municipality, through its Transversal Unit, partnered with Exxaro Matla Coal to host a successful Albinism Awareness Programme aimed at supporting people living with albinism and parents raising children with disabilities.

The event brought together community members, non-profit organisations, and government representatives to promote inclusion and understanding.

Through a series of presentations, motivational talks, and interactive sessions, participants were encouraged to engage in meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities faced by people living with albinism and other disabilities.

The event also focused on education and empowerment.

Experts and guest speakers provided guidance on health, social inclusion, and access to services, while also addressing the stigma and discrimination that many people with albinism still face.

Parents raising children with disabilities were given practical advice and emotional support, helping them feel more confident and connected to resources that can assist them on their journey.

The event marked the society’s commitment to building a society where every person is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their physical appearance or abilities.

Attendees had a chance to network, build relationships, and learn from one another.

Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a thoughtful and inclusive initiative. The event not only raised awareness but also strengthened community bonds and encouraged ongoing support for those living with disabilities.

The municipality referred to the occasion as an opportunity to reaffirm its dedication to creating a compassionate and inclusive environment.

Officials emphasised that people with disabilities deserve equal opportunities and should be fully supported in all areas of life, from education and employment to healthcare and social services.
