Croc ‘arrested’ for trespassing

There are still two crocodiles in the dam, and the community is warned to stay clear of the area around the dam.

The first of the three crocodiles spotted in a dam in the Blesboklaagte area was caught.

Piet Wassenaar said the crocodile was caught in a trap set out on Friday to catch the ‘trespassers’.

Wassenaar said the community reported there were three crocodiles in the dam.

“Small, medium, and large were the terms used to describe the sizes of the crocodiles. The one we caught was the medium one, according to the community,” Wassenaar said.

This crocodile measured about 2m.

“The trap is set again, and hopefully the other two crocodiles will be caught soon,” said Wassenaar.

He advised the community to maintain a safe distance and not to attempt to feed or disturb the crocodiles when they are spotted.

Wassenaar works closely with the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency and has a permit to catch dangerous animals and relocate them.
