Blesboklaagte croc finds new home

The 2m crocodile caught in a dam at Blesboklaagte found a new home in Loskop Dam.

The crocodile caught in a dam at Blesboklaagte has a new address.

The crocodile was released in Loskop Dam on September 8.

But Piet Wassenaar, who caught the croc, warned there are still two more crocs in the dam.

“When the community reported the first sighting, they described the crocs as small, medium, and large. The croc that was rehomed is, according to the community, the medium one,” Wassenaar said.

Measuring 2m in length, one can only imagine how big the ‘large’ croc is.

Wassenaar said a trap was set to catch the two remaining crocs and also relocate them.

In the meantime, he warned the community to stay clear of any stream and dam in the area.

A juvenile Nile crocodile caught in a dam in Siyanqoba in December 2023 was also relocated to Loskop Dam. Johannes Lekoto from the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency said the crocodile is in good health and had no injuries.
