No one seriously injured in yesterday’s R555 crash

Authorities urge all motorists to exercise caution and avoid risky behaviour on busy roads.

An accident involving two bakkies, one single-cab and a double-cab, occurred on the R555 yesterday. Fortunately, both drivers survived the incident, though one sustained a chest injury and received medical attention at the scene.

According to eyewitnesses, the collision happened when one of the drivers attempted a U-turn on the road and noticed the other vehicle approaching. Despite efforts to avoid impact, the two vehicles collided, causing visible damage to both.

The driver, America Dibakwane, who was making a U-turn, explained what led to the accident, admitting that he had been making a U-turn, “I was escorting my colleague who was driving a truck in front of me, and I saw his truck stuck by the roadside as I was passing, so I had to make a U-turn and attend to him. Unfortunately, I noticed the other bakkie approaching when it was already late.”

According to the other driver, Richard Masinga, he tried all in his power to escape the collision. “I tried applying my brakes, but it didn’t work for both of us. I don’t even have insurance for my bakkie,” Masinga said.

Emergency services responded to the scene, and an accident case has since been opened. Police have confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
