Markotter Street shooter arrested for firing random shots

The police warn legal firearm owners against reckless use of firearms.

The police recently apprehended a legal firearm owner who was spotted firing random shots in the street.

According to the police, the officers on duty in the evening of September 13 received a report about an alleged intoxicated man who was spotted firing random shots at Markotter Street in Reyno Ridge.

Upon arrival at the scene, the officers reportedly heard a shot fired from one of the houses in the street, only to notice a man in the yard carrying a firearm.

When they instructed him to put it down, he complied. Though he managed to provide a license that matched his firearm, the police still arrested him for discharging a firearm in a municipal area.

Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson for the Witbank SAPS, said that if a legal firearm owner is caught using a firearm recklessly under the influence of alcohol, he or she will be arrested.“Discharging a firearm under the influence of alcohol renders you unfit to possess a firearm,” he said.
