The victim was locked up in the house, and another was forced to the ground in 2 hijackings

Car hijacking is a common occurrence in eMalahleni – make sure your vehicle is locked.

Two bakkies were reported hijacked in a space of just five days.

The first bakkie was hijacked in Hlalanikahle on September 15.

A man reported that when he arrived home, he left his company vehicle’s engine running while he quickly went inside to grab something.

When he returned, he noticed a shadow outside his window and went to investigate. As he stepped outside, an unknown man allegedly pointed a gun at him, ordering him to be quiet. The man also had an accomplice.

The alleged armed man ordered him back into his house and locked him in.

The second man then jumped into the bakkie, a Toyota Hilux, belonging to the company the victim works for, and drove away.
No shots were fired during the incident.

In a second incident, on September 19, just before 20:00, a man reported that when he arrived at his friend’s house in Ext 10, he was approached by three unknown men just as he stopped.

One of the men, who was allegedly armed with a firearm, pointed it at him and instructed him to get out of the company vehicle, a white Isuzu bakkie he was driving, and lie on the ground.

The victim told police his friend ran away and left him.

The men took his cellphones and drove off with his vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered on a gravel road near Verena.

Captain Eddie Hall, Witbank SAPS spokesperson, said, “Stay aware of your surroundings and be prepared to take action if you sense any danger. Importantly, if something feels wrong, trust your gut feeling and act.”
