Elderly celebrated with care, information, and respect

The municipality marked the International Day of Older Persons with a heartfelt outreach to two old-age centres in Phola.

With the best interests of the city’s elderly at heart, the municipality demonstrated its deep commitment to the well-being of senior citizens by hosting a heartfelt celebration in honour of the International Day of Older Persons.

Through the mayor’s office and its Transversal Unit, the municipality visited two old age centres in Phola on October 1, Vukuzakhe Old Age Centre and Ukuzala Ukuzelula Old Age Centre, to engage directly with elderly residents and show appreciation for the vital role they continue to play in our communities.

Trudy Xhala-Mavimbela, manager of the unit, said, “In celebration of the International Day of Older Persons, we as the municipality took it upon ourselves to honour the elderly in a very special way. We visited two old age centres in Phola, where we educated residents on important topics such as rebates, subsidies, billing processes, health services, and social development opportunities.”
