Delivery man dies following shooting during hijacking
The delivery man was shot when he was overpowered in the CBD.
The delivery man died after he was shot during a hijacking in the CBD over the weekend.
The incident occurred on Lewis Street on October 4.
The victim, who was identified as Ernesto Daniel Luzolo (43), an Angolan national, died at a local hospital later that night.
According to the Witbank SAPS, Luzolo told police that the suspects shot up in the air first when they instructed him to get off his motorbike.
In his report to the police, he said they forcefully dragged him off the motorbike, searched him, and robbed him of his cash and phone.
They then made off with his delivery bike.
During the hijacking, he was shot.
“The victim noticed he was bleeding as his leg was injured and a projectile was found on the scene,” said the Witbank SAPS spokesperson, Captain Eddie Hall.
Luzolo was rushed to the hospital, where he died shortly afterward.
His brother, Patrick Balu, couldn’t find the right words to express how broken he was.
“As a family in this difficult time, we need any form of help from anyone. It can be from authorities or from just an ordinary human being,” said Patrick.
“Police investigation is still underway, and we are urging anyone with information that might help with the investigation to come forward,” said Hall.
His colleagues referred to the incident as a pill hard to swallow for them.
