Armed robbery leaves workers shaken in local workshop

The police advise business owners to train their staff to be vigilant and educate them on safety precautions.

A normal working day turned into a robbery nightmare for two workers, who were attacked and robbed of gadgets and other items amounting to thousands in a local workshop.

According to the police, a man reported that on October 3, around 03:05, he arrived at his workplace with his colleague, and as they entered the office and opened the roller door, he suddenly noticed a light at the gate.

When he went to check, he found a security guard from a security company who said he was checking if everything was in order.
As he returned and got busy in the office, getting things ready for the day, the man reported that that was when three allegedly armed men barged in and attacked them, instructing them to lie down, while they tied them up.

The man said the robbers robbed the workers of their phones, business laptops, and other items they found in the workshop.

The police are still investigating the case, and Captain Eddie Hall from the Witbank Police advises business owners to make their establishments less attractive targets by limiting cash, enhancing visibility with good lighting and clear windows, and installing security measures like CCTV and alarms.

“Businesses must train staff to be vigilant and educate them on the precautions to take to ensure their safety during a robbery,” he said.
