Victims are being kidnapped and robbed in a rising crime trend in the Vosman Policing precinct
Kidnapping is used as a tactic to commit robberies in the Vosman Police Area.
Police in the Vosman area are investigating four separate cases in which victims were kidnapped before being robbed. The incidents were reported between September 29 and October 3. In each case, victims were forced or tricked into vehicles, then robbed of cash, belongings, or money through electronic transfers.
According to police, on October 3 at around 21:00, two women were in Ackerville when a silver-grey Polo stopped and offered them a lift. The driver allegedly drove them toward Benoni and later to Bronkhorstspruit.
On the return to eMalahleni, the car ran out of petrol.
After refuelling, he allegedly began driving recklessly and threatened to kill them. The vehicle then crashed, deploying the airbag.
One woman managed to escape and went home, while the other was left behind but later brought home by a friend. Police confirmed that the suspects in this case were positively identified and arrested.
Also on October 3, at around 18:30, a man walking home from a tavern near Clewer was allegedly forced into a vehicle by three unknown men. He was taken to a bushy area where his cellphone was taken. The suspects withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from his account and took additional cash. They instructed him to call his family to request more money, but later left him in the bushes. The suspects remain unknown.
On October 2, police reported that two men were at a tuck shop in KwaGuqa Extension 16 when they were approached by four men in a silver Polo. One of them was armed.
They demanded money from one of the men. When he said he didn’t have any, he was pushed into the vehicle and driven away. During the trip, they demanded an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects in this case have not yet been identified.
In another incident reported on September 29, a woman hiking from Ga-Nala to eMalahleni accepted a lift from a white Polo with two men inside. During the trip, one of them allegedly instructed her to close her eyes and lower her hands. Her cellphone was taken, and an undisclosed amount of money was transferred from her account without her consent. Her toiletry bag was also stolen. She was later dropped off in Olifantsfontein, where she received assistance from a passing driver. The suspects remain unknown.
