Bettie Bandana fun walk around the corner

The WITBANK NEWS team is going to participate in the Bettie Bandana fun walk – come join us.

There is no need to introduce Bettie Bandana. This initiative has already nestled itself deep in the heart of eMalahleni.

Here is a small recap of it.

Bettie Bandana started as an initiative when Retha van Greunen, in 2016 at the age of 40, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.

She was faced with a lot of questions and was uncertain what to expect after being diagnosed.

On this journey, she began sharing with her friends some of the quotes that had pulled her through the agonizing and miserable moments.

Bettie Bandana started to share these encouraging quotes that pulled Retha through, such as: “You are stronger than you think!” and “One day at a time…” or “If you can put on your shoes, it means there is still work to be done.”

These quotes were the first steps to something bigger, and nothing could prepare Bettie Bandana for the impact she was about to make!

A non-profit was founded to make even a bigger contribution, not only to cancer patients, but also to the greater community.

Bettie Bandana became more than just a gift box for breast cancer patients…Bettie became a family!
Bongi (for men), and Billy and Bella (for kids) were born to include men and childhood cancer.

They joined hands with other local community partners to host exciting and uplifting projects.

Today, Bettie Bandana serves not only cancer patients, but also their families and the greater community with practical, emotional, and physical support.

Bettie Bandana aims to give a glimpse of hope on a difficult journey.

To conclude breast cancer month, a Bettie Bandana fun walk will be hosted at Highveld Mall.
A lot of fun activities are planned for the day.

“Highveld Mall is honoured to host the Bettie Bandana Pink Walk event this year! This inspiring, community-driven initiative brings people together to show support in the fight against cancer and to celebrate the strength and resilience of cancer survivors. Bring your family, friends, colleagues, and neighbours for a meaningful and memorable experience,” said Highveld Mall’s marketing manager, Nicola Blake.

Entries for the fun walk are R100 for adults and R50 for children.

Entries can be done on Quicket.
