Municipality unlocks doors to brighter futures with student bursaries

Ten eMalahleni students were awarded bursaries through a partnership between the municipality and a tax and VAT optimisation company focused on investing in the youth and future of the city.

Dreams became reality for 10 students when a company specialising in tax and VAT optimisation joined forces with the Emalahleni Local Municipality to award bursaries that will power the next generation of professionals.

The bursaries on October 14 were awarded to students who reside in eMalahleni but are studying in different institutions within the country.

Renusha Ramdas, director of the company, emphasised the importance of investing in the young people of eMalahleni.

Renusha stated that the company has been a stakeholder within the municipality and found it important to fund the first bursary initiative in the city for 10 deserving students as part of their CSI programme.

MMC for Technical Services, Thabang Mathebula, acknowledged the importance of the bursaries from the private sector as a way to reduce the financial burden on the government and parents of the students.

He further emphasised the importance of education as an equaliser in society.

Mayor Clr Vusi Nhlapho expressed his appreciation for the role that the municipality’s LED unit has in building relations with stakeholders operating within the city. He further stated that this ensures that investment is continuous and that investing in students is investing in the future of our youth, who will in future influence sustainable economic growth.
