Update | Kaitlin is safe

Kaitlin is safe. She spent the night in a hospital in Johannesburg.

Kaitlin Coetzer, who had been missing for two days, has been located.

Her aunt, Claudine Klingenberg, confirmed that Kaitlin was found safe, though weak and disoriented, at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg.

The search for Kaitlin began on October 21 when she reportedly jumped out of her parents’ car at a hospital in eMalahleni.

Unfamiliar with her surroundings, Kaitlin made her way to the CBD, where she called her parents from a KFC. However, upon their arrival, she reportedly fled again.

Tow-in drivers, police, taxi drivers, and community members rallied, searching for her throughout the night.

The search efforts shifted to Johannesburg last night after taxi drivers recognised her and informed police they had transported her to Hillbrow at her request.

A long-distance taxi driver further corroborated this, explaining that the taxi drivers collectively raised her fare to Hillbrow after she pleaded for assistance.

He solidified this account by presenting a logbook in which Kaitlin had written her name.

“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from volunteers who searched for Kaitlin. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us during this difficult time,” Klingenberg said.
