Family mourns death of loved one shot and killed in Ackerville domestic violence incident

"My sister didn't deserve to die like this," said the victim's sister, Princess Xulu.

The Xulu family is mourning following a tragic domestic violence that resulted in the shooting and killing of their beloved daughter.

The deceased, identified as Simphiwe Xulu was found dead with a gunshot wound on her chest on the evening of October 27.

According to the SAPS provincial spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the officers responded to a domestic violence complaint around 21:00. Upon arrival at the scene, they were met by a group of concerned residents gathered outside the yard and the homeowner, who directed them to where the incident occurred.

“Officers discovered the lifeless body of a woman lying on the bed with a gunshot wound on her chest,” said Ndubane.

Xulu’s husband, identified as the alleged shooter, was also found in the same room, still clutching the firearm.

“The man was still gasping for air, with a firearm lying beside him. Paramedics were summoned to the scene but certified both the man and the woman deceased upon arrival,” said Ndubane.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the man turned the gun on himself after fatally shooting his wife,” Ndubane added.

According to Xulu’s sister, Preincess Xulu, the sad passing of her sister is a hard pill for the family to swallow.

“My sister was a nice person, full of respect; she used to put other people first, and she was not self-centred,” said her sister.

Xulu’s body remain not claimed at the government forensic mortuary and the family is seeking the public’s help to take her body to KwaZulu-Natal where she will have a dignified funeral.

“I don’t have strength at this point. I’m pleading with whoever can help us in this situation to intervene,” Xulu’s sister added as she fails to find the right words to express her feelings.
