N12 and Duvha road hijackings leave truck driver and motorist robbed at gunpoint

The police advise all drivers to always be on the lookout when on the road, regardless of the time of day or night.

Two drivers recently fell victim to separate violent hijackings that left one robbed of a Quantum and the other a truck.

According to the police, a man said that in the wee hours of November 27, he was driving a truck he had loaded in Swaziland for his trip via the N12 freeway to Johannesburg.

After a while into his journey, he reported that he noticed a mechanical problem with the truck and immediately pulled over. As he was about to get off the truck, a car with three men inside suddenly stopped behind the truck.

Two of the men approached him, with one pointing a firearm at him, and they forced him out of the vehicle.

The man told the police that they tied him with a rope around his waist, and after one of the hijackers finished fixing the fault on the truck, he was pushed back into the truck on the passenger’s side.

The hijackers then drove off with him and dumped him around Snake Road in Benoni, making off with the truck, his wallet, and two cellphones.

In another incident that occurred on November 29, a man told the police that he was driving his Toyota Quantum at Duvha road around 04:00 when a vehicle flashing lights forced him to stop.

Two armed men got off and approached him, prompting him to flee to a nearby camp. Another vehicle also pulled up, and the hijackers jumped into the victim’s Quantum and drove off.

Investigations into the cases are underway, and the police call on all drivers to always be on the lookout when on the road, regardless of the time of day or night.
