Justice for minors remains top priority as accused rapist’s trial is set for 2026

The trial of alleged serial rapist Cascar Nkosi, accused of multiple cases of rape and kidnapping of minors, is set for next year.

Community members in eMalahleni continue to call for justice as the trial of 39-year-old Cascar Nkosi, accused of multiple cases of rape and kidnapping, has been scheduled to begin on May 18, 2026, at the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court in Middelburg.

Nkosi faces 26 charges, including rape and kidnapping of minors aged seven to 13, as well as a separate charge of rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm involving his wife.

Nkosi was first arrested in January 2025 while attending court in Vosman for an unrelated assault case. His arrest followed investigations linking him to at least 10 reported cases of sexual assault and abduction across eMalahleni, Vosman, and Mhluzi, dating back to 2023.

During his brief appearance in the eMalahleni Regional Court on June 23, it was confirmed that the case would be transferred to the High Court for formal proceedings.

Outside the courthouse, residents, political representatives, and activists gathered to demand justice for the victims.

Nombuso Shabangu, Speaker of the Emalahleni Local Municipality, said that the municipality is prioritising the case, offering support to affected families, and has approved future court sessions to be held at the Emalahleni Civic Centre to facilitate attendance for victims’ families and the community.

The Kwanele Mama Foundation, represented by Chairperson Vinolia Mashiane, also highlighted the gravity of the case.

“Although the process is taking time, Nkosi remains in custody, and the court will determine justice for these children and their families,” Mashiane said.

Among the victims is a 12-year-old girl whose mother, Nosipho Mtshweni, recounted the traumatic experience. The girl was allegedly kidnapped in September 2023, taken to a remote area, and raped. Following the ordeal, she has struggled with nightmares, school performance, and trust issues.

Mtshweni urged the community to support the victims: “We need justice for our children.”
