MMCs back in court in January
The two MMCs suspected of extortion and corruption will be back in court early next year.
The two Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) suspected of taking gratification will return to court in January.
Cllrs Jerry Djiana and Busi Hlumbane are scheduled to appear in court on January 26, following their high-profile arrest by the Hawks on April 16.
They spent the Easter weekend behind bars.
The Witbank Magistrate’s Court granted them R10 000 bail each on April 22.

The two were nabbed at Witbank Dam when they allegedly received money in gratification for extending the lease of a crematorium in eMalahleni.

Soon after the Hawks closed in on them, Dijana asked the police officers to use the toilet and allegedly tried to hide the envelope containing the cash in the toilet.

Shortly after their arrest the ANC in Mpumalanga expressed shock and disappointment at the arrest of the tow ANC councillors.
The party said Hlumbane and Djiana would immediately step aside from their positions of deployment and elected leadership positions as per party constitution.
