Alleged robber dies after mob justice in Tasbet Park

The police urge the community of eMalahleni not to take matters into their own hands and report cases to the police.

An alleged robber was severely assaulted and died of his injuries in hospital.

It is believed that the robber was assaulted by the community after a robbery at a salon in Tasbet Park on December 21.

Two men also allegedly linked to the robbery were arrested.

The owner of the salon told police that the men robbed her, three of her employees, and three other people in her salon and took her car keys.

“The alleged robbers tried to start the car, but failed,” police spokesperson Sergeant David Ratau said.

It is reported that the community heard the commotion, came to assist the woman, found the man, and allegedly started beating him.

When police arrived on the scene, they rushed the injured man to the hospital.

“The community must collaborate with us in fighting crime in our city, and the best way they can do that is by informing us if there’s a criminal activity going on and not taking matters into their own hands,” said Ratau.

Ratau added that it is alleged that the suspects are the ones who have been terrorising communities in eMalahleni, particularly Coronation, and the police are still going to conduct further investigations into those allegations.
