Teen allegedly raped in Hlalanikahle

SAPS advises the public to stay aware of their surroundings and be mindful of who is around them.

As everyone was celebrating, welcoming the new year, a woman and a teen were allegedly being violated in separate incidents by men who couldn’t understand their no.

According to the police, a woman alleged that on January 1, around 03:30, she was on her way from Madini when she came across a man she didn’t quite know but had seen before, who asked her to accompany him to buy alcohol.

After a couple of drinks, she accompanied him to his place in Vosman as he requested, only to allegedly cock a firearm and force her to undress when they got there. Fortunately, the woman told the police that she got a lucky escape as she managed to push the man and run away to get help.

Only hours later, at approximately 06:00 on the same morning, a second tragedy unfolded in Hlalanikahle.

A resident reported to the police that her neighbor’s teenage daughter arrived at her home in tears, telling her that she had been raped.

Vosman SAPS is continuing its investigations into both cases, with SAPS advising women to refrain from walking in the streets at night. They also encourage parents and guardians to always be careful about the men around their children, being watchful of any behavoural changes that might be seen in children.

“Avoid walking alone in poorly lit or secluded areas, especially at night, limit alcohol consumption and never leave your drink unattended, and stay aware of your surroundings, being mindful of who is around you,” SAPS stated.
