2 drown – Old Bethal is a no-go as community protests

Don’t travel on the Bethal Road near Masakhane Village - road closed due to community uproar.

The Old Bethal Road has been closed after three trucks blocked the road near Duvha Power Station, bringing traffic to a standstill.

The closure follows angry community protests that erupted after two young boys drowned in a nearby mine dam on January 7.

Residents gathered to demand action over unsafe open dams, blaming them for the tragic loss of life.

Police intervened and dispersed the crowd to prevent further unrest. Shortly after the road was cleared, heavy trucks were left stranded, completely blocking access.

The road remains closed. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes until further notice.
