Middelburg Plaza search yields illegal alcohol worth thousands

The driver of a vehicle found with illegal alcohol at Middelburg Plaza during a festive season operation was apprehended.

Police recently arrested three people who were found transporting alleged illegal alcohol during a stop-and-search operation.

According to police, officers conducting a stop-and-search operation at Middelburg Plaza during the festive season stopped a vehicle on January 5.

The vehicle had three occupants -two men and a woman. During the search, officers discovered that the occupants were transporting alleged illegal alcohol worth thousands.

Police confiscated the alcohol, and the driver was arrested.
This arrest adds to the 441 arrests for illegal dealing in liquor made during Operation Shanela II across Mpumalanga Province since the start of the new year until January 4, with more than 1 000 litres of alcohol confiscated.

Through the operation, police searched premises, persons, and vehicles in different areas of the province to curb criminality and ensure that those who threaten the safety and stability of Mpumalanga face the full might of the law.

According to SAPS provincial spokesperson Sergeant Thulisile Magagula, Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi said, “These results send a clear message that criminality in any form will not be tolerated in Mpumalanga. Our intensified operations will continue as we work tirelessly to maintain law and order.”
