Coronation Secondary learners rise from hardship to academic triumph

When the learners couldn’t afford to attend the school camp, they formed their own group and camped at a friend’s place to study.

A group of eight learners from Coronation Secondary School recently demonstrated the power of resilience and determination, overcoming great obstacles to achieve outstanding matric results.

The learners known as the ‘Incredible Eight’ faced financial limitations that threatened to derail their academic dreams, but they refused to give up.

When the worst of their challenges arose during exam preparations, and they had to attend school camps but couldn’t due to financial constraints, they didn’t wallow in sadness.

“We requested to be housed at one of the residential houses in our area due to different family backgrounds around affordability,” the boys said.

Thanks to Andries Senwamadi, uncle to one of the learners, who opened his home for them to stay together for all their study sessions, the boys studied hard.

Six learners secured bachelor’s degree passes, while two earned diploma passes.

“We are really grateful to all our parents who supported us tirelessly in our journey. Though we all had our shortcomings, we still managed to pass well,” the ‘Incredible Eight’ said.

The parents are very happy with the boys.

Andries, who witnessed their late-night study sessions firsthand, expressed the joy felt by all the parents: “We are so happy and incredibly proud of these boys; their dedication has truly paid off.”
