Two behind bars as third suspect remains at large in Siyanqoba robbery and rape case
As two accused remain in custody, the community rallies behind the victim and calls for justice
Two men accused of a brutal house robbery and rape in Siyanqoba remain behind bars after appearing in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court.
On January 28 the case was postponed to February 26 for a formal bail application, while a third suspect linked to the crime remains at large.
The incident took place in September last year when three suspects broke into the victim’s home while she was sleeping with her children. Police said the suspects gained entry after smashing a bedroom window. The woman moved her children to another room before being confronted by the suspects. One of the men allegedly pointed a firearm at her and demanded money before she was forced into another bedroom and raped.
Community member Nomsa Masiyela attended court to support the victim, said, “We are here to support one of ours who was raped by three people in her home and robbed last year. We are glad that the case was postponed, and we wish that they don’t get bail. We don’t want them outside, as we are not safe around them. We are asking for support from the community to make sure that justice is served.”
