49-year-old beaten allegedly by security guards, dies

A grieving family demands justice and community support after 49-year-old Patric Ndlovu died following a brutal assault allegedly by security guards at a local crèche in Phola.

The family of 49-year-old Patric Ndlovu is demanding justice after he died following an assault allegedly by security guards at a local crèche in Phola. The incident on February 15 has left relatives devastated and outraged, as they continue to question why Ndlovu was subjected to such extreme violence.

According to his sister, Paulina Chauke, Ndlovu was found inside the crèche yard, where he was accused by security personnel of attempting to steal.

“They said he did not break anything; nothing was stolen. But they immediately beat him and asked what he was doing there,” Chauke said.
“After that, they hung him and continued to assault him before leaving him on the street to die.”

In the early hours of February 16, a neighbour discovered Ndlovu lying in the street, badly injured. He was rushed home while the family awaited transport to the nearest health facility for medical attention.

The family said Ndlovu sustained severe head injuries, facial trauma, and internal bleeding.
While relatives acknowledged that Ndlovu had struggled with drug addiction, they emphasised that this did not justify the extreme violence he suffered.

“Yes, he had a problem with drugs, but no one deserves to be beaten and left for dead. If there were suspicions about him, the security guards should have called the police,” said Chauke. “Taking the law into your own hands is unacceptable.”

Ndlovu leaves behind children and grandchildren. His family says no one at home is currently employed, and they are appealing to the community for assistance to lay him to rest this coming weekend.

“We are pleading with the community to help us bury our brother. Any support, financial or otherwise, will make a huge difference during this difficult time,” Chauke added.

A case has been opened, and the family is urging the police to ensure that the security guards allegedly involved are held accountable.

“This was not just an assault. This was an abuse of authority that ended a human life. Our brother did not deserve to die in this way. We want justice, and we want to prevent this from happening to anyone else,” said Chauke.
