Fatal stabbing outside Vosman SAPS ends with suspect shot by police

Police shoot suspect after fatal stabbing in Vosman.

A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death outside the Vosman SAPS, and the alleged attacker was later shot and injured by police during a confrontation near KG Mall.

According to police spokesperson Lt Col Vusi Mnisi, two detectives were on their way to attend an off-duty parade when they noticed two men fighting just outside the station’s perimeter fence.

“The suspect took out a knife and stabbed the victim in the upper body before fleeing the scene,” said Mnisi.

Police immediately attended to the injured man, who was still alive at the time and able to provide his identity and residential address.

“Backup was called to assist in pursuing the suspect. A few minutes later, he was cornered near KG Mall, where he was threatening community members with the same knife,” Mnisi explained.

He added that when officers approached, the suspect allegedly advanced toward them while wielding the weapon.

“When he saw the police, he came towards the members and attacked them with the knife. One officer fired a single shot, striking the suspect in the leg,” said Mnisi.

The suspect was transported to hospital under police guard.
