Get ready to make a difference – join the Cansa Shavathon

The CANSA Shavathon encourages participants to shave or spray their hair in solidarity with cancer patients, as hair loss is a common side effect of treatment.

People from all walks of life are invited to come together and show their support for those affected by cancer at the upcoming Cansa Shavathon events, hosted at The Ridge and Ben Fleur Boulevard.

These events not only raise funds for vital cancer research and support programmes but also offer the community an opportunity to stand in solidarity with survivors in a fun, engaging, and meaningful way.

The annual campaign forms part of Cansa’s national “Be Courageous” Shavathon initiative, encouraging South Africans to show that no one facing cancer stands alone.

Makoma Raolane, Cansa’s National Sustainability Manager, said, “For people facing cancer, the loss of their hair is often emotional and difficult. It can affect confidence, dignity, and overall well-being. Our Shavathon was created to show those affected by cancer that they are not alone – every snip, every spray, and every donation sends a powerful message of compassion and support.”

At The Ridge, the Shavathon will take place on March 28 and 29, running from 10:00 to 17:00 at the food court opposite the movie cinemas.

Participants can shave, spray, or colour their hair to show support for cancer survivors, many of whom face hair loss as a result of treatment.

Donations start at R50 for adults and R25 for children under 12, ensuring that everyone – young and old – can participate in this life-changing initiative.

Limited edition Cansa headwear will also be available for R60 per item while stock lasts, and those who are unable to shave can contribute through a “Bail Out Fee.”

Meanwhile, at Ben Fleur Boulevard, residents are invited to join the Shavathon on February 28, from 09:00 to 14:00 at Del Forno.

Hair donations of 25cm or longer are welcomed for the making of wigs for cancer patients in need, with shorter lengths also accepted as fillers, as every strand counts.

Funds raised support Cansa’s care and support programmes, education and awareness initiatives, screening services, and Cansa Care Homes for patients travelling far for treatment.
