Through the event held on February 14 at the Moth Retirement Village, Leon Poolman emphasised the importance of communities taking responsibility for their own safety and future.
“We cannot give that responsibility to the central government alone to ensure our safety,” Leon said.
“It’s time for us to take control and work together toward a safer community.”
As part of their community outreach efforts, the team partnered with Helpende Hand, which recommended a donation to the retirement village.
The donation included a monetary contribution and some pancakes to bring smiles to the elders’ faces and brighten their Valentine’s Day.
“Our elderly are very special,” the veteran said, adding that they decided to visit the village because eMalahleni also falls within the 36 safe areas across South Africa.
According to the event organisers, the event proved to be a great success, because not only did it impart the elders with knowledge, but it also brought priceless smiles to their faces.
