Elsabe Road finally usable following pipe repairs

While the road is now dry and usable, Councillor Maureen Scheepers noted that it will take some time for the resurfacing to take place as it is a project that requires additional funding.

Residents from Elsabe Road in Jackaroo Park are finally breathing a sigh of relief as the road, which had been impassable for months due to a pipe leak, is now dry and usable.
This comes after the repair works conducted by the Emalahleni Local Municipality team on February 9, in which they installed new stormwater drainage pipes and a system.

“The road is now dry and useable; however, the tarring and resurfacing still hasn’t taken place yet,” said Councillor Maureen Scheepers, who had been working tirelessly to get the issue resolved.“The resurfacing of the road is a big project; it’s not like patching, where you can just patch a pothole because it is a big portion.”

Scheepers explained that the cost of resurfacing is too high and requires additional funding, further mentioning another part not far from the area where the tar was removed completely due to a flood.

“I’ve put in a request to get funding from disaster management to get the entire portion resurfaced,” she said.

The damage on Elsabe Road had been caused by a prolonged leakage that caused a muddy mess for months, with cars unable to pass and people struggling to leave or access their homes.

“Thankfully, the residents can now use the road again, and though it could take a little bit longer to get it resurfaced due to the processes involved, I can ensure that I’m working with the technical director to get that resolved,” the councillor concluded
