Fighting Gender-Based Violence with action and care
Community members gathered at Phathudi Ground as All Voices Matter launched its first outreach event to raise awareness about gender-based violence and support vulnerable residents.
The organisation All Voices Matter hosted its inaugural community outreach event at Phathudi Ground, aiming to support the needy and raise awareness about GBV. The event on March 7, which included donations of clothes, a communal lunch, and educational activities, drew a strong turnout from the local community.
Speaking at the event, GBV activist Abongile Mcoki emphasised the importance of awareness campaigns in addressing violence in the area.
“We want to raise awareness about GBV in our community. It’s important for people to know where to seek help, and we also invited stakeholders who deal with social issues in the city to provide support,” Abongile said.
She added that connecting community members with stakeholders is vital.
“Often people call me about individuals facing challenges like drug abuse, and I wanted to ensure they are linked with the right resources and support systems,” she explained.
Organisers expressed gratitude to all who contributed to making the event possible.

Plans are already underway for future events, with the organisation aiming to identify other communities in need.
“Our first event was a success, and we look forward to hosting more initiatives to support vulnerable members of our society,” Abongile said.
