Man dies after alleged community assault in Ackerville

Alleged community assault leaves a man dead.

Vosman Police are investigating a murder case following the death of a man who was allegedly assaulted by members of the community in Ackerville.

According to police, on March 11, officers received a report at approximately 19:00 about a deceased person at a residence in the area. It is alleged that the victim was assaulted earlier that day at around 10:00 and later taken to the house, where he sustained multiple injuries.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found family members gathered at the property. Police discovered the lifeless body lying on the floor inside the dining room, covered with a blanket.

No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.

The SAPS emphasised, “The South African Police Service strongly condemns any acts of mob justice. Community members are urged to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, as such actions are unlawful and may result in criminal charges. Suspected offenders must be reported to the police immediately and handed over to authorities so that proper investigations can be conducted. Members of the public are encouraged to work with police and community structures to address crime through legal and safe channels. Justice must always be served through the justice system and not through violence.”
