Witbank Citylads mourn the loss of Bryan Mabena

eMalahleni soccer legend Bryan Mandla Mabena laid to rest in Klarinet

The Witbank Citylads FC family and the wider community are mourning the tragic passing of Bryan Mandla Mabena, who died at the age of 35.

His journey in sport began at the age of 12, when he first discovered his passion for soccer.

His talent and determination quickly shone through, and he became a key figure for various teams, including Witbank Citylads FC and Elandsfontein FC, where he wore jersey number 10 as an attacking midfielder.

During the time of his passing, Mabena had already expanded his sporting career into professional pool, where he was making waves and building a reputation as a rising star. He was securing numerous awards.

Born in 1991, Mabena started school at Kunjani Intermediate School, proceeded to Elukhanyisweni High School, and ultimately completed a qualification in engineering at a local college.

“He was a very cool and collected person, and he dominated a lot in the eMalahleni soccer industry,” said his sister Gugu Mabena.

“He got sick, and on March 12, the sickness defeated him, and he sadly passed away,” she added.

Mabena leaves behind three beloved sons, his family, and countless fans who admired his dedication both on and off the field.

The Witbank Citylads FC expressed its grief in a statement, “We’re absolutely devastated to hear about the passing of Bryan Mandla Mabena, a true legend of Witbank Citylads FC and an inspiration to countless fans. His passion, skill, and dedication to the beautiful game will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his loving family, friends, and the entire Witbank Citylads FC community during this incredibly tough time. May his legacy live on through the memories we cherish of him on the pitch, and may he continue to inspire future generations of players and fans alike.  #RIPBryanMabena”

Mabena was laid to rest on March 21 in Klarinet following the main funeral service in Lynnville.
