MPYC hosts Voices of Hope choir festival to pay tribute to André Oosthuizen

According to the organiser of the MPYC, organising the festival was not an easy task for her, as André was her life partner.

The Mpumalanga Youth Choir opened its 2026 season with the Voice of Hope choir festival.
The festival was held on April 24 at Hoërskool Patriot.

The evening was filled with performances from youth choirs across the eMalahleni area.

This festival carried special meaning as it served as a heartfelt tribute to the late conductor, André Oosthuizen, who died earlier this year, and whose passion and vision shaped the choir for many years.

The organiser, Jeanne Lourens, who was also André’s life partner, faced the difficult task of arranging the first event of the year.

The festival formed part of the choir’s 45th anniversary celebrations.

A joyful highlight was the Mr and Mrs MPYC competition, where Sunshine and Nkazi were crowned winners.

The Mpumalanga Youth Choir extends sincere thanks to the participating choirs, performers, and supporters who helped make the evening a memorable success.
