Around the world in one evening as HGH serves success in global plate

Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog's principal praised the team, stating that the school’s restaurant is just the best.

Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog’s Grade 12 restaurant evening soared to new heights with its ‘Around the World’ theme, delivering an unforgettable experience.

According to one of the organisers, Monique Brits, what began with nerves and tight deadlines transformed into a polished showcase of talent and dedication, leaving guests in awe of the learners’ efforts.

From the moment attendees stepped into the transformed venue, they were transported across continents.

The decoration, atmosphere, and energy created the feeling of embarking on a global journey, while the learners, acting as gracious hosts, ensured every detail was handled with care.

The five-course menu became the evening’s ‘flight plan,’ with each dish representing a destination and offering guests a taste of international cuisine.

Monique further stated that the success of the event was not only measured by the food and ambiance but also by the overwhelming support from the community.

“Thanks to clever marketing strategies – eye-catching posters, word-of-mouth promotion, and engaging social media campaigns – the restaurant evening quickly became the hottest ticket in town,” she said.

Learners shared behind-the-scenes glimpses and countdowns that built anticipation, ensuring the event was fully booked well in advance.

Behind the scenes, the journey was far from easy.

Learners faced late nights, last-minute adjustments, and the pressure of delivering excellence.

“Everything about this event is just perfect, the venue, the food, the vibe, it’s all good,” said the school’s principal, Gerhard van Rooyen.

As the night drew to a close, pride and joy filled the room, as the class of 2026 had not only hosted a remarkable event but also demonstrated that they are ready to take on the world beyond school.
