Wins and losses as Patriot and Kanonkop lock horns

Hoërskool played host to Hoërskool Kanonkop for a massive round of Mpumalanga Middle Schools league fixtures.

Hoërskool Patriot fought hard but fell short in their sporting games against Hoërskool Kanonkop for the Mpumalanga Middle Schools league.


On May 16, the school hosted intense rugby, hockey, and netball matches against Kanonkop.


“We had very intense games with lots of tension going back and forth,” said Anica Kock from Patriot.


On the hockey field, they started with disappointing losses in the girls’ teams. The U14 girls ended in a goalless draw, while the U15 lost 0–5 to Kanonkop. The U16 lost 3–4, closing up with the first team, which also suffered a devastating loss of 0–6 against the visitors.


The boys’ hockey first team came and lightened the situation with a 3–0 victory against Kanonkop.


On the netball courts, the U14 A suffered a 3–17 loss, while the U14 B also endured a narrow loss of 6–8. The U15 A lost 12–14 to their opponents, while the U15 B secured a hard-fought tie of 10–10 against Kanonkop. The U16 A came and represented Patriot with a 13–10 victory, while the U16 B lost 3–10 to their opponents. The U16 A again played against the Kanonkop second team and triumphed with a 9–3 win.

The netball matches closed off with a loss of 19–27 between the first teams.


The boys tried their best to restore the school’s reputation on the rugby field, but only succeeded in two matches. The U14 set up the tone with a 24–13 dominance against Kanonkop, followed by the U15, which dropped the ball with a 19–28 loss. The U16 suffered a devastating loss of 3–64 to their opponents, while the second team also suffered a 0–31 loss.


The Patriot first team closed it off with a clear dominance of 42–27.
