Highveld Mall honours security teams’ courage during jewellery store robbery
The security teams acted bravely and rescued some of the items that were stolen during the armed robbery.
The management of Highveld Mall has formally recognised the bravery and dedication of its security staff following the armed robbery incident at Jean Andre Jewellers last month.
The incident occurred on April 15 when an armed gang raided the store in broad daylight.
The mall’s representatives noted that their swift actions and professionalism ensured the safety of the staff and shoppers during a tense and dangerous situation.
Controller Jacoline Sefoka was praised for her quick reflexes and keen instincts in the control room, which led to a rapid response from both the security and mall teams.
Wilfred Hianeng received recognition for his rapid response and calm handling of the situation. His actions were described as an outstanding example of dedication under pressure.
Security officers Charles Kutumela, Daniel Mathoto, and Ronald Madiseng were commended as valuable assets to the mall. Their consistent dedication to the safety of staff and tenants was acknowledged as a vital part of the mall’s daily operations.

Nonhlanhla Bhembe was also recognised for her professionalism and commitment during the incident, while Cherel Gouws, who leads the security team, was applauded for her leadership, loyalty, and guidance that set the standard for the entire unit.
Tactical officers Absalom Mnisi and Alfred Tshehla were honoured for their bravery, with their actions described as courageous and vital in ensuring the mall’s safety. The representatives stated that their response reflected the spirit of Emma Donoghue’s words: “Scared is what you’re feeling. Brave is what you’re doing.”
Guard Bongani Nkabini, stationed at Jean Andre Jewellers, was saluted for his bravery during the robbery itself. His courage and dedication to protecting others were deeply appreciated.
From Presidio Security, Piet Wassenaar and Annemarie Bouwer from the SACCW were also recognised for their ongoing support and commitment. Their role in keeping the mall informed and secured was highlighted as an important part of the wider team effort.
