Bail extended for Old Coronation murder accused as ballistic reports awaited

The accused faces three charges, including murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

The man accused of killing his girlfriend in Old Coronation has appeared in court again as the murder case continues to unfold.

The accused appeared in the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court on July 8, where the matter was further postponed to allow investigations to continue. Lindiwe Mngomezulu (40) was shot and killed at the couple’s home in Old Coronation on May 8, allegedly by her boyfriend. Police seized a 9 mm pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition at the scene.

The accused, who was previously granted R2 000 bail in May, had his bail extended today while the court awaits ballistic reports. The magistrate confirmed that the matter has been postponed to allow further investigation.


He faces three charges: murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

Mngomezulu’s family has voiced their frustration over the bail decision. Her sister, Loliwe Ngwenya, previously warned that releasing the suspect could endanger others and urged the public to continue demanding justice.


The accused is expected to return to court on September 22.
