Local runners took to the streets to raise their voices against gender-based violence and honour women killed in spaces where they should have been safe.
The streets of eMalahleni went silent for a moment as local runners took to the roads in memory of athlete Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo and to honour women killed in spaces where they were meant to feel safe.

The body of 38-year-old Moselakgomo was discovered in Kempton Park this week after she disappeared on September 9, having left her eight-year-old daughter at home to go for a run.

The Emalahleni City Marathon, in collaboration with Eskom Athletics Club, took a stand during their scheduled session on September 15.
Maurice Mdluli of the City Marathon said, “That was our usual training session, but we decided to run in honour of Moselakgomo to raise awareness about issues affecting us as runners – especially the safety of women – and observe a moment of silence.”
