Armed robbers force shop staff to print R50 000 in vouchers

Police are investigating after two suspects allegedly held up a retail store in an eMalahleni shopping centre.

Police are investigating a business robbery after two armed suspects allegedly forced employees at an eMalahleni retail store to print vouchers worth R50 000 before fleeing the scene on October 9.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 17:20.

Suspect confronts manager

It is alleged that one of the suspects entered the store and approached the manager, who reportedly became aware that the suspect was carrying a firearm.

The suspect allegedly instructed the manager to co-operate and escorted her to the till area.

At the tills, the suspect reportedly ordered cashiers to print vouchers worth R50 000. A second suspect allegedly guarded customers inside the store while the robbery was under way.

The suspects then allegedly instructed employees and customers to move into the office area and warned them not to activate the panic button before fleeing the scene.

Security confirms investigation

Witbank News reached out to the shopping centre’s security team, who confirmed the incident and that investigations were still under way.

Anyone with information that can help with the investigation is urged to visit their nearest police station, or call 079 891 5570 or 013 655 5052.
