Another soccer coach appeared in court today after allegations of sexual assault on minors

Another trusted coach accused of preying on children — outrage grows in eMalahleni as communities demand justice.

Outraged parents and community members filled the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court earlier today for the first appearance of a soccer coach accused of allegedly molesting young boys.

The appearance of the coach comes after his arrest on June 20 with charges of two counts of rape.

The case was postponed to July 2 for a formal bail hearing.

According to the parents, the children aged not older than 15 years had been staying at the clubhouse in Kwa-Guqa, run by the accused, where the alleged incidents happened.

Abongile Mcoki, All Voices Matter founder and gender-based violence activist, who also supported the parents in court, expressed great concern about the increasing number of sexual assault cases involving soccer coaches.

“We are hoping that he doesn’t get bail; we do not want any bail for sex offenders. Our kids are not safe even when they are going to play soccer,” Mcoki said.

Vusi Kabinde, chairperson of the Ezinambeni Development League, also shared similar sentiments.

We don’t promote such things because coaches know how to handle the kids. We’re so disappointed with this situation, and we hope that justice will be served,” Kabinde said.

Alarmingly, this is not an isolated incident
On August 5, 2025, the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court sentenced coach Sibusiso Gama, to 10 years in prison, with five years suspended, after he was found guilty of molesting minor boys during soccer camps.

In another ongoing case, a coach was previously found guilty on similar charges and is expected back in court on July 13 for sentencing.
