Victim can safely breathe after being rescued from her alleged kidnappers

Two of the alleged suspects fled from the scene and one was arrested.

Mpumalanga Police successfully arrested a suspect in eMalahleni today and rescued a victim who was fortunately unharmed.

The police received information about the alleged kidnapping from the victim’s uncle after he received a phone call from her.

The suspects took the victim’s phone immediately and demanded that her uncle pay an amount of R15 000 for her release.

The suspects’ vehicle was tracked down at Klarinet this morning, and the police made their way to the location.

When the suspects noticed the police, two of them fled the scene on foot.

The third suspect was arrested and the victim was rescued.

Upon further investigation, precious stones alleged to be diamonds were found in the suspects’ vehicle.

The vehicle and the precious stones were confiscated for further investigation.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Kwamhlanga Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, August 17, facing charges of kidnapping and extortion.

More charges could be added as the investigation continues.

“Be it as it may, the team is still pursuing the remaining suspects and we want each one of them to be brought to book. We had such incidents in the past where females were kidnapped for a ransom. We hope to make a breakthrough with regard to linking the suspect to other crimes committed elsewhere,” said the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela.
