Happy feet, happy learners

KMG’s golf day did not bring along a birdie, but 1 000 pairs of school shoes.

Kwema Golfer Club’s  (KMG) annual charity golf day was again for the books.

The rain must have known this golf day was a good initiative and therefore it allowed the players a ‘dry’ morning to take up the clubs.

One of the beneficiaries is Vuma Combined School; representing the school are Lethokuhle Sihlahla, Ovay Mbongo, Mpilwenhle Mgidi, Ms Busi Khumalo, Lwandile Nkosi and Mr Doctor Ngweyo.

The course however was very difficult because of the persistent rain.

Mr Mandla Mabuza from KMG said they have managed to raise and receive 780 pairs of school shoes and there has been an extra donation of R26 000 that would add an extra 150 pairs.

The winners are Team Agriesy Jabulani Masilela, Sydney Zulu, Kwema Golfer Club
deputy president Terry Maseko, Lindiwe Masango and Nana Mtungwa.

“Shosholoza, the company that manufactures the school shoes, donated an extra 50 pairs thus our team reached its target of 1 000 pairs in the ‘Walk a thousand miles in my shoes project,’ ” Mandla said.

He said they are humbled and appreciate the support from all that headed the call and embraced the initiative.

Team MBM are the runners-up, here are Kwema Golfer Club president Hugh Mbethe with Charlene Roux, Aniena van Biljon, Kwema Golfer Club deputy president Terry Maseko, Tess Steyn and Stacey Turner.

The schools that will be receiving school shoes and sanitary products are: Vuma Combined School, Mmakgobane Combined School, Mogalitwa Primary School, Moruti Makuse Primary School, Jeremiah Mdaka Primary School and Hlangu-Phala Primary School.
