Fixing hearts in the heart of eMalahleni

The eMalaheni Private Hospital recently performed its first procedure in its brand-new state-of-the-art cath lab.

Another chapter in the rich history of eMalaheni Private Hospital (ePH) was written when the first procedure in the new cath lab was done last week.

After countless sleepless nights, planning and replanning, the cath lab was ready for its first patient on Friday January 12.

A catheterisation laboratory or a cath lab is an examination room within a hospital unit with diagnostic imaging equipment used to visualise the arteries and chambers of the heart and treat any stenosis or abnormality found.

“Located at the heart of eMalahleni, this cath lab will bring much-needed services to a region that previously had no access to potentially life-saving care within reasonable proximity,” said Zandile Ngubeni, the ePH’s spokesperson.

Dr Kodi Moloto, board director of eMalahleni Private Hospital.

Extended research has positioned eMalahleni as an ideal location for such a unit. Ngubeni said: “Our newly licensed facility is a nine-bed cardiac unit, consisting of five intensive care unit beds, four general ward beds and a state-of-the-art cath lab theatre.”

The unit will be under the watchful eye of Sr Winnie Mashala, the cath lab unit manager, and her team of highly trained staff. “Offering high-quality healthcare services, ePH maintains the highest standards of personalised patient care and clinical excellence while positioning itself in an accessible, affordable bracket,” Ngubeni concluded.
