Jéan-Andre Jewellers left to pick up pieces after Highveld Mall business robbery

The store is currently closed as staff members work hard to get everything back in order.

The Jéan-Andre Jewellers at Highveld Mall is still picking up the pieces following a daylight robbery that left three suspects dead and the store in ruins.

According to the store owner, Cathy Joannou, the store is temporarily closed as staff members continue to work tirelessly to get everything back in order after the incident that occurred on the morning of April 15.

“We are temporarily closed, but they are currently working inside,” Joannou said, adding that the staff is also busy putting together the stock that was retrieved.

The owner assured that everyone is okay; however, the incident has taken an emotional toll on her staff members.

“We are okay; some of the staff members are still traumatised,” she said, hinting at a chance of reopening tomorrow if all damaged glasses have been replaced.

This comes after the incident in which a group of men stormed into the shop and held the security guard and an employee at gunpoint, and robbed the store.
As they fled the scene in different vehicles, they got involved in a shootout with an armed response unit that intervened swiftly.

Three of the group of suspects were shot dead. At the crime scene, police recovered three pistols, a rifle, and rounds of ammunition believed to have been used by the suspects.
A vehicle with false registration number plates, which was also used as a getaway vehicle, was recovered, with some of the stolen jewellery inside.
