Community calls for justice ahead of Nkosi’s alleged rape and kidnapping trial
Families and community structures prepare for court proceedings as they seek justice and closure in a high-profile case involving multiple allegations.
Community members are calling for justice and urging a fair, swift trial as the case against 39-year-old Cascar Nkosi is set to begin next month at the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court in Middelburg.
Nkosi is facing 26 charges, including multiple counts of rape and kidnapping involving children aged between seven and 13. He also faces a separate charge of rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm involving his wife.
The trial, scheduled to begin on May 12, comes after Nkosi’s arrest in January 2025 while he was attending an unrelated assault case in Vosman.
Police investigations later linked him to at least 10 reported cases of sexual assault and abduction across eMalahleni, Vosman, and Mhluzi, dating back to 2023.

As the court date approaches, affected families and community structures, including the Kwanele Mama Foundation, said they are preparing for what they describe as a difficult but important step toward justice and healing.
Foundation chairperson Vinolia Mashiane, said, “We are hoping the trial goes well and that it is a fair trial with no delays, as the victims have waited a long time. We are calling on the community at large to support the families and the victims and hoping for justice.”
One of the parents, Nosipho Mtshweni, added that the emotional strain on families remains significant as they prepare for court proceedings.
“We can never be ready, as we don’t know what is going to transpire, but we are hoping for the best so that we can get closure and justice and also healing for the children. It’s a lot in itself, but we want it to pass and for the children to get help to move on.”
