MNS residents turn out in numbers as Klarinet relocation site declared ready

MNS Informal Settlement residents attended a mayoral walkabout in Ward 12 where relocation to Klarinet Extension 9 was highlighted as a step towards improving living conditions.

Residents from the MNS Informal Settlement in Ward 12 gathered in large numbers as Mayor Clr Vusi Nhlapho conducted a community walkabout focused on the planned relocation process to Klarinet Extension 9.

The visit on May 13, which drew significant community participation, centred on the municipality’s plans to relocate families currently occupying privately owned land within the settlement to a new site where officials said development preparation has already been completed.

During the engagement, Mayor Nhlapho interacted directly with residents to provide clarity on the relocation process and to listen to community concerns regarding the planned move to Klarinet Extension 9.

The mayor also conducted home visits within the community to assess the living conditions of residents and gain a better understanding of the daily challenges faced by affected families.

“As the municipality, our responsibility is to ensure that our people live in safe and dignified conditions with access to proper services. The engagement with the MNS community forms part of our commitment to work together with residents throughout the relocation process. We understand the concerns of the community, and we remain dedicated to ensuring that the move to Klarinet Extension 9 is handled in a fair, transparent, and humane manner that prioritises the wellbeing of affected families,” said Nhlapho.
