Kriel police are investigating an attempted armed robbery and attempted murder following a failed cash-in-transit heist at a shopping centre in Ga-Nala.
According to police, a security team arrived at the shopping centre on June 29 to replenish an ATM when they were ambushed by armed men while loading cash.
The armed men allegedly overpowered the security officers, disarmed them, and seized a cash container.

However, the robbery attempt was unsuccessful after the attackers were unable to open the high-security cash canister.
They abandoned the container at the scene without taking any money.
Before fleeing, the armed men allegedly opened fire, striking one of the security guards. The injured officer was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
No arrests have been made as investigations continue.
